My first day of (being Head of) Year 7

Hello, and welcome to Team St Michael’s! We are thrilled that you have chosen to join our fantastic school, and we are really looking forward to seeing you thrive and flourish during your time here. Our aim is to help all our pupils to grow in body, mind and spirit over their five years at St Michael’s and that starts right from your first day of Year 7!

Starting at high school could be daunting for anyone, but fear not – people are there with you every step of the way. We are well-known for being a caring school community and someone will always be on hand to help: from the Year 8 Bridge Buddies to the Year 10 Peer Mentors who will show you round school during your first few days with us; and from all the teachers to all the support, admin and site staff we have in school. Most of all you will have your own form tutor who will be your main point of contact and your first port of call in any emergency.

Just since I have been here I have seen roughly 4500 pupils start as Year 7, go through the school, then leave as Year 11s. (Plus in some cases, coming back in a few years to work as staff here!) It is both a joy and a privilege to witness how these pupils grow and flourish over that time, and the same will be true of you too. We are an outstanding school with outstanding results, and one of the main reasons behind that is because we put an outstanding amount of effort into the care and wellbeing of our pupils – pupils like you. It’s alright to feel nervous about such a big change in your life, but bear in mind that there will be 225 or so other members of Year 7 feeling exactly the same way too, so you are in good company. And if you do have any further questions or concerns, please don’t hesitate to get in touch and we’ll do our very best to help.

I look forward to seeing you soon,

Mr Neville
Pupil Manager for Year 7
