Safeguarding at St Michael's

At St Michael's, our Christian vision shapes all that we do. We are a caring and inclusive community where staff, pupils, parents, carers and governors work together to ensure that every young person has the opportunity to grow in body, mind and spirit.

The safety and wellbeing of our pupils is our highest priority. We are committed to creating a safe, supportive and nurturing environment where children feel valued, listened to and protected.

We aim to ensure that:

  • Appropriate action is taken promptly to safeguard and promote the welfare of all children.
  • All staff understand their statutory safeguarding responsibilities and their role in protecting pupils.
  • Staff receive regular safeguarding training to enable them to recognise, respond to and report concerns effectively.
  • Pupils know how to seek help and feel confident that any concerns they raise will be listened to and acted upon.
  • Parents and carers have clear routes to report concerns and access support when needed.

If you have any safeguarding concerns about a child, whether they relate to their safety, welfare or wellbeing, please contact the school directly and ask to speak to a member of the Safeguarding Team, or email us at safeguarding@saint-michaels.lancs.sch.uk.

Concerns can also be reported anonymously through our SHARP System, which provides a confidential way for pupils, parents, carers and members of the community to share any worries about a child's safety or wellbeing.

Every concern is taken seriously and will be dealt with sensitively, appropriately and in line with our safeguarding procedures. If you are worried about a child, please do not assume that someone else has reported it. By speaking up, you could help ensure that a child receives the support and protection they need.

At St Michaels we have four Designated Safeguarding Leads (DSL) who pupils, parents and staff can speak to regarding any safeguarding concerns.
