Curriculum Enrichment Programme

Year 9 Curriculum Enrichment Programme

Our innovative Year 9 Curriculum Enrichment Programme offers pupils a chance to explore learning beyond the classroom and develop a deeper awareness of their role in the wider community.  As a key part of our personal and spiritual development offer, the programme supports pupils in growing in body, mind, and spirit, with the aim of helping each individual become the person God wants them to be.

Pupils take part in a variety of activities including voluntary work, community and environmental projects, charity initiatives, and work-related experiences.  These opportunities help develop important life skills, while encouraging pupils to engage with and support their local community.  Along the way, they are encouraged to reflect on our Christian values of stewardship, compassion, service, and humility.

We hope these experiences prompt thoughtful engagement, a sense of responsibility, and enjoyment in learning new things.

Duke of Edinburgh’s Award (Bronze)

Through the programme, pupils also work towards the Bronze Duke of Edinburgh’s Award. Now in its sixth year, this opportunity has supported over 1,000 pupils in achieving the Award.  AllAllAll Year 9 pupils are invited to take part.  With staff guidance, they complete three months each in the Skill, Physical, and Voluntary sections, plus three additional months in one of these areas outside school.  This takes place in the summer term, alongside our Christian Values Enrichment Days.                                                                                                   Two women lying in a tent

Curriculum Enhancement

Alongside the main curriculum, this programme extends pupils’ experience of National Curriculum subjects. Pupils may:

  • Take part in an extra nine-week module in art, design and technology, or food and nutrition
  • Choose between dance or Mixercise, a combination of fitness and running
  • Complete key elements of the careers programme

Though the enrichment sessions are not graded, pupils must participate fully and complete each rotation, supporting their progress toward the DofE Award.

How the Programme Works

Activities take place on Thursday afternoons (Periods 7 and 8) and are led by staff.  Pupils move through four rotations, each lasting nine weeks:

We look forward to seeing our Year 9 pupils make the most of the opportunities this programme offers and encourage them to take on the challenge of the expedition to complete their Bronze Award.
