This lies at the heart of everything we do.

Our approach to character education empowers pupils to discover their identity, articulate their values, and live with purpose.

We guide them to reflect on who they are, cultivate a strong moral compass, and grow into the person God has called them to be.

Integrated Across School Life

Character education isn’t a standalone subject—it’s embedded throughout our curriculum and culture.  In Year 7, pupils participate in a weekly Character and Spiritual Education (CASE) lesson, engaging with vital themes such as resilience, wellbeing, social justice, and courageous advocacy.  These sessions inspire deep reflection, meaningful action, and personal growth.

The CASE File

Pupils also work towards their CASE file—an initiative designed to foster holistic development.  It encourages them to set personal goals, take part in enrichment activities, nurture a love for learning, contribute to democratic life, and reflect on life’s deeper questions.

Beyond the Classroom

Our commitment to character development shines through the vibrant enrichment opportunities we offer. Pupils engage in the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award, lead social action projects, and step into leadership roles such as worship leaders, peer mentors, and Eco Council members.  Through these experiences, they develop key traits like compassion, responsibility, creativity, and a spirit of service—living out our Christian values of justice, humility, and stewardship.A group of boys in uniform holding baskets

Rooted in National Guidance

Our character education aligns with national benchmarks, including the Department for Education’s Character Education Framework and SIAMS inspection criteria.  Through our curriculum, we nurture virtues such as confidence, resilience, and integrity, while helping pupils engage thoughtfully with the wider world through ethical decision-making and global citizenship.

Lifelong Impact

At its heart, character education at St Michael’s is about forming young people who are kind, principled, and ready to make a positive impact on our rapidly changing world.  Whether through classroom experiences, enrichment, or spiritual reflection, we seek to nurture pupils who are grounded in Christian values, confident in their identity, and prepared to flourish beyond the school gates.
