Vision
Design & Technology forms part of the Technology Department.
The Technology Department is an enthusiastic and passionate curriculum area of specialist teachers who are dedicated to encourage and develop creative thinking and promote independent work in our young people at St Michael’s. We aim to achieve this through an ambitious and coherently planned curriculum which challenges and questions all pupils, whilst allowing them to flourish as young adults.
At St Michael’s we want pupils to thrive as creative individuals, whilst growing in Body, Mind and Spirit throughout their studies in Design & Technology.
Our vision is to:
• Develop skills, confidence, and competence to take risks to help pupils become resourceful, innovative, enterprising, and capable citizens, both individually and as members of a team.
• Promote creativity and imagination, to allow pupils to design and make products that solve real life and relevant problems within a variety of contexts.
• Acquire a broad range of subject knowledge and draw on disciplines such as mathematics, science, engineering computing and art.
• Encourage and develop a range of skills using specialist tools, techniques, processes, equipment and machines, whilst experimenting with different materials and components, taking into consideration their properties and uses.
• Think critically, to analysis and evaluate their work and the work of past and present designers, to understand the impact on daily life and the wider world.
Design and Technology is an inspiring, rigorous, and practical subject, and students develop strong values on aesthetic, moral, social, cultural, and environmental issues. We believe that, by the time they leave St Michael’s, they will have acquired the attributes to fully prepare them to approach their future with confidence and resilience; building life skills which enable them to adapt and change for the fast changing world of the 21st century.
Throughout Design & Technology at St Michaels, we strive to deliver a curriculum which empowers and enthuses all pupil’s, whilst being rooted in our core Christian values.
